Date/Time
Date(s) - 17/10/2015
8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

This gold-rush era story-play, written and devised by Kerry actor, Mike O’ Mahony, was first performed in New York in 1995 and tells the story of poet Robert Service and his poetry.

Robert Service a British-Canadian poet and writer has often been called the “Bard of the Yukon” and is best known for poems such as “The Shooting of Dan McGrew” and  “The Cremation of Sam McGee”. His vivid descriptions of the Yukon and its people made it seem he was a veteran of the Klondike Gold Rush, instead of the late-arriving bank clerk he actually was.

Robert Service himself recited his poems for eager audiences on wintry Yukon nights, and here in this dramatic re-creation, the same atmosphere is evoked and the audience is drawn back into a bygone era.
