Saturday June 23rd has been established this year under the Creative Ireland programme as a national day of creativity for children and young people.
Cruinniú na nÓg will be an annual all-island public event that celebrates creativity in young people.

As part of this day of creativity Kerry’s Writer in Residence and Filmmaker in Residence will be coming together for Cruinniú na nÓg 2018 at the School House in Muckross on June 23rd to present a special series of events.

Annemarie Ní Churreáin and Mieke Vanmechelen will be hosting a morning workshop entitled ‘’Wild at Heart – Build your own Monster” where children under 12 are encouraged to get involved in games where they use language and imagination to explore and invent their own wild and mythical creatures!
Mieke will introduce film to young participants by documenting some of the resulting works/poems. These will be available to view post event.
This workshop will draw upon creative writing exercises to support children in the discovery of poetry, storytelling and filmmaking.

In the afternoon there there will be a special ‘video art screening’ produced by Mieke Vanmechelen featuring the work of Annemarie Ní Churreáin. This short film is a unique collaboration and was filmed in the National Park. The day will conclude with the premiere of a short film made by students of Killarney Community College.

This event for young people of all ages is designed to give a general exploration of culture and aims to give a brief but inspiring introduction to literature, the visual arts, film and performance.
