A Welcome Letter from the Chairman

I want to extend a warm welcome to you on your visit to our Website. I hope you will learn something of the rich heritage and culture of Muckross House and that you and your family and friends will be encouraged to come and visit us in the future.

This Website can only provide you with a glimpse of the many attractions, experiences and opportunities that are to be availed of and enjoyed at Muckross. Our purpose in developing the Website is to share this wonderful resource with as wide an audience as possible. By logging on just now you have helped us in achieving our goal.

As Chairman of the Board of Trustees it is my privilege to preside over an organisation that has as its primary aim the protection, preservation and presentation of one of Ireland's most beautiful properties.

The Trustees are proud of their record, over four decades, in partnership with the Irish Government, of continuously developing the full potential of the gift of this property, so generously bestowed on the people of Ireland by Senator Arthur Rose Vincent and his parents-in-law, Mr and Mrs William Bowers Bourn.

I will conclude with a quotation attributed to George Berkely, Bishop of Cloyne (1685 - 1753):

"The King of France may lay out another Versailles, but with all his revenue he could not lay out another Muckross"

Come and see for yourself - a warm welcome awaits you.

Michael Gleeson
CHAIRMAN
The Trustees of Muckross House.
