As
we went back to the olden days in Muckross Farms we met some interesting
people and we saw some farmyard animals.
We
went to the first house, which was quite small, and we met two
women. They showed us how to make soda bread. It takes forty minutes
for the soda bread to bake. They made a cross over the dough to
'keep
the fairies away'. They then put the dough in a pot and
put the lid on the pot and left the dough over the fire. Then
they put hot coals over the pot and left it to bake.
They
told us that the fireplace was the 'heart' of the house. If there
were visitors they would welcome them to the 'heart' which was
the fireplace.
As
we left that house we saw a pig and her piglets. Then we went
into another house and we saw a pig's head hanging from the ceiling
and a pig's foot hanging beside the fireplace. They told us how
they killed the pig. They tied the pig's legs together, then they
got a butchers knife and the last thing that got out of him was
his squeal.
We
then saw some horses and a man called Neily showed us how to attach
the jaunting car to the horse.
Finally,
we went to the last house and Jimmy Crowley played some songs
for us. I had a great day and I hope you do too!
